Will Kevin Garnett Be The Next Legendary Boston Celtic

Alright, so Kevin Garnett might be a Celtic. Firstly…wow! Did any of you seriously see this coming? It quite possibly will go through today. I hope it does. The fans and the league need this. I need this! Okay, so lets take a closer look. The deal mostly comes down to KG and Al Jefferson. Sure, Gerald Green might turn into a decent player in best case scenario, or he could be the next Fred Jones. Sebastian Telfair…meh? Theo Ratliff’s career is practically over, so as I said, it comes down to Al Jefferson. Don’t get me wrong, I think Al Jefferson is going to be a star. Mark my words, he will! But what it really comes down to, is whether he will be the next KG? Not even the slightest chance. KG is in a league of his own. With the Celtics, he’d actually have a legitimate chance to win a championship, where before, I already considered him one of the greatest players in league history that never won a championship. Can you ever see Al Jefferson reaching this level? Most will argue he is still young, which is fair. But lets be practical. It’s not happening, and the Celtics will come out on top of this trade. Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett….wow!

With these three guys, anything less than a championship would be a dissappointment

I’m sorry dude, but there’s no way that those three players can bring a championship to beantown. I will not even bother to argue that they will be the best 1-2-3 punch in the league, but it still doesn’t matter. The simple fact of the matter is that they will have no supporting cast and last time I checked basketball was a five person game. Also, they will have to rest sometime. The Celtics will be a lot better this year, but their chances of winning the title are very close to zero.

And that’s the main argument. Also, injuries could play a role. But if these guys all stay healthy throughout the playoffs, how can you deny them a championship? How do you double team KG in the post when you’ll be leaving Ray Allen open? Or how do you collapse on Ray Allen when he drives, because he’ll be dishing to Pierce. My man, you need to take it all into consideration.

With this trade, Boston should be the favorites. Look at Cleveland. They made it to the Finals with just one star and a terribly weak supporting cast. So in the East, that trade is enough to get the top spot. But whether that translates to a championship remains to be seen.

I don’t doubt that the trade will make the Celtics a lot better, but tell me the last time a team won the championship after giving away all it’s young talent for one aging superstar. Or better yet the last time any group of superstars won without a strong supporting cast.

I’d have to give the weak supporting cast to the 2000-2001 Lakers. Greg Foster wasn’t much to brag about, and Derek Fisher was mostly injured. Shaq and Kobe did just fine the two of them. I can’t deny the Celts have a weak supporting cast, but who knows what could come out of Rajon Rondo, Tony Allen, or even rookie Brandon Wallace. Even though the Celts gave up a lot of potential, they still have guys that could learn a lot from playing with the the Big 3.

Ok, let’s just say for arguments sake that the young celtic players step up and play well enough to give the big 3 some support. The celtics still have one of the worst coaches in the league. I just can see a Doc Rivers team winning the championship. The celtics are still a few significant changes away from being legitimate title contenders.
